Xbox 360, what the hell?

Filed under: Uncategorized, Opinion — stuart @ 12:29 pm

Now before anybody says anything i just want you to know that these are the views of me and me only and nobody else.

The Xbox 360 has now been out for over 18 months and I’m looking at it and wondering what the hell has it brought to the table in the past 18 months that has justified the console and the new generation of gaming.

First off I’m going to stick up for the 360 by saying that it has pushed online console gaming to a new height because if it wasn’t for the 360 i doubt that Sony and even Nintendo would of thought about going online and i just want to clap my hands for what Microsoft has done.
It has just been online where the Xbox 360 is great at, we know that it has a lot of FPS and racing games but it handles them so well that it shows you a console can handle a FPS and they are not just for PC gamers.

Now it’s time for me to blast the 360, other than it having great FPS and racing games there isn’t much else on the 360 that’s has really stood out, so far most of the games have either been really terrible or they haven’t lived up to there hype.
My first case in point comes in the form of Gears of War now this game was hyped up so much that i wanted to punch anybody else who talked about before the release of the game, when the game finally got released did it live up to my expectations well for the first 5 minutes it did but the more you scratched the pretty graphics surface the more you realised that this is just another bog standard no brainier action game, the saving grace of Gears of War came in the form of the multi player however even this started to grate on me after a while and i started to get sick of it.
It’s not just Gears of War that has disappointed me i was really looking forward to Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Splinter Cell etc but even these turned out to be last gen games with a few nice graphical touches.
So this goes to show that the 360 is rooted in the last gen but is trying to make up for it with new shiny graphics and passing them off as something new, if i wanted a last gen game i would of stayed with the xbox, ps2 and gamecube but the whole point of a new generation of gaming is to be treat with something new not thrown the same game out again and again.

I have enjoyed my time so far with the 360 but there have been a lot of times when i look at my white console and think to myself did i make the right choice in choosing this or should I’ve just waited a little longer before buying one.
I’m looking on the horizon of the 360 and it is starting to become a bit more clear that this new generation might live up to the hype but it has taken over 18 months for this to happen and a lot is riding on the second generation of games for the 360 because now it has competition from the PS3 with it’s better graphics (sort of) and the Wii with it’s different take on gaming.

Whether the games coming out for the 360 over the next year makes me happy that i picked it remains to be seen but i am keeping my fingers crossed that my white box of tricks is going to shine.

Now if you have any opinions on what I’ve just said by all means post up a comment as i would like to know what you think.

VN is back again

Filed under: Opinion — stuart @ 11:41 am

As you can see over the last week there hasn’t been much in the way of new stuff added to Vagusnet however I’m hoping this will change as i haven’t been feeling that well over the past week however I’m much better know so i will be updating much more from now on.

Now we are trying to get more things on here but we need your help and input as to what you think we should have on the site, i do have a few ideas but i need to go by Gaz first to see what he thinks.
I won’t tell you what they are but what i will say is that one of them is unique and i don’t think i’ve seen it on very many sites and i think that it would give all of you even more imput than before.

So keep checking back and leaving your comments

E3: Best overall game

Filed under: News, Opinion, Microsoft — stuart @ 10:11 am

So it has come down to the best game at this years E3 and it was a hard choice as there were a lot of good games however in my eyes there was one that shone more than any other game, there was one that impressed me even more, there was one that stood higher than anything else, there was one… OK I’m going to stop there and tell you what it is.

Lady’s and Gentlemen i give the best game at E3 (drum roll please) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Now it’s a bit pointless telling you what the game is about but i will say that this time it isn’t set in world war two this time it’s set in present time and has a shit load more action that the other Call of Duty games.

So what the hell impressed me more than any other game well it was the fact that the developers saw that it was time for a change to the series and instead of doing a EA and release another Medal of Honor game in world war two they decided to set it in our times thus breathing new life into the series.
On top of all of this the graphics blew me away as they showed what can be done on next generation consoles.

So if watching the trailer and seeing the many screenshots of the game hasn’t impressed you then you need to stop laying video games now as you are no longer welcome in the video game fold.

E3: Best Xbox 360 game

Filed under: News, Opinion, Microsoft — stuart @ 4:54 pm

Now in my eyes Microsoft’s E3 press conference was the worst out of the 3 as it didn’t show anything that we didn’t know about and there was very little in the way of surprises however there were a few stand out games at there event including my choice for there best at E3 Project Gotham Racing 4.

While it’s just another racing game on the 360 PGR4 stands out for a few reason those being that it looks absolutely gorgeous, it has some fantastic weather effects that determine how you race on the tracks that are available and finally the ability to race bikes as well as cars.
The game will be out in September as Microsoft only showed games at there press conference that are going to be out this year apart from Resident Evil 5.

Again with the PS3 game the trailer for PGR4 is below so leave a comment to tell us what you think and if you also think that my choice is wrong and what you would of picked.

E3: Best PlayStation 3 Game

Filed under: News, Opinion, Sony — stuart @ 4:29 pm

In my eyes Sony had the best E3 press conference and there were a few stand out games however my pick for the best Playstation 3 game of the show had to be Uncharted Drakes Fortune.

Developed by the creators of the Jak and Daxter series Naughty Dog the game sees you taking control of Nathan Drake a Lara Croft wannabe on a journey through a tropical wilderness fighting the usual bad guys and preforming the moves we normally see in Tomb Raider games.
So why is this my choice of the best PS3 game at E3 well it boils down to the fact that it looks fantastic and instead of Sony just doing a Microsoft and release there 100th FPS or Racing game they decided to go with a 3d adventure and it was one of only a handful of games at E3 that wasn’t a sequel and that says something.

So below is a trailer of the game and you can see why i think this game will be big.

E3 Done and Dusted

Filed under: Uncategorized, Opinion — stuart @ 4:18 pm

Another E3 has gone by and this year was a stripped down version of what we normally expect however there still was a few big highlights of this years E3 and below is what i thought the best game was on each of the formats starting with the Playstation 3 and what i thought was the best game.

*each game will have it’s own post and it will be exclusive to that console

E3 2007 Nintendo Press Conference

Filed under: Uncategorized, Opinion, Nintendo — stuart @ 5:41 pm

So Nintendo has just finished there first press conference of the new E3 so what did they talk about, well below is just some of the main points that Nintendo talked about this year.

Three new peripherals were shown off, firstly there is the new Wii zapper that will play home to the Wiimote and Nunchuck and will change it into a light gun for the upcoming Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles from Capcom, Ghost Squad from SEGA, Medal of Honor from EA and many more games to come.
Secondly there was a steering wheel from Nintendo themselves that will come packaged with Mario Kart Wii and will see the light of day early next year.
Finally there was the most interesting controller in the form of a balance board that will come with the game WiiFit and will see people taking exercise to a whole new level by using pressure pads that are encased in the controller itself measuring how much weigh you put on it as well as detecting the movements that you make.

Nintendo also lined out that they plan to make more of an effort when it comes to online gaming with games like Fifa, Madden, Dragon Quest Joker, Guitar Heroes 3 and many more games have some form of online play attached to them.

Two important release dates were also announced for to of the biggest games this year, Mario Galaxy will be hitting American shores on November 12th with Super Smash Bros Brawl out on the 2nd of December again for American stores with no word on when we in the UK will see them.

Shown off for the first time was a new Wii channel that will be for your Mii’s, entitled Check Mii Out the channel will see people being able to swap there Mii’s with a lot more ease and also be able to enter them into special competitions and tournaments.

Finally Nintendo stated that they expect the gaming industry to eclipse TV, music, DVD etc across the globe with sales and the amount of time people spend with games.
Highlighted in this was Nintendo stating that the gaming industry has grow a lot in the last few years and that’s mostly down to how successful the Nintendo DS has done with it contributing 69% of the growth and it looks like this number will rise considering how well the DS is doing across the world.
Nintendo also said that they plan to have another 100 Wii games and 140 DS games out by the end of the year in America.

Overall Nintendo press conference wasn’t all about showing us just trailers of new games they wanted to tell us how gaming is affecting people and how well the DS and Wii has done to get more than just the hardcore gamer playing video games.
Yes people are going to be a little disappointed on the lack of new games announcement but Nintendo are taking a different prospective on the gaming industry and did want to just make there press conference like there two rivals.
